Our breeding program follows the standards of the ALAA “Platinum Paw“, while our health-testing protocol goes beyond those requirements. Every breeding dog is tested to the comprehensive Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) CHIC Program standard before entering our program, ensuring health is established before a dog is ever bred. This distinction reflects the level of care and intention behind every River Days pairing.
Temperament is equally important to our vision. Our program has produced successful service and therapy dogs, and we thoughtfully incorporate proven lines with the goal of producing Australian Labradoodles with the exceptional temperament, intelligence, and stability these roles require.
Our parent-dogs are cherished family members, raised in our home, or through carefully selected host families rather than traditional kennels. From thoughtful breeding to lifelong support, every aspect of our program is designed with the well-being of our dogs and the families who love them.

Reserving a River Days Puppy
Because we thoughtfully pair each puppy with the family best suited to their temperament and family-lifestyle, our reservation process begins with an approved adoption application and a $500 non-refundable reservation fee. The reservation fee is applied in full toward the purchase price and secures a place for the family on a specific litter.
Puppy matching takes place at seven weeks of age, after each puppy has received a comprehensive veterinary examination and completed a formal temperament evaluation with our Certified Professional Trainer. This allows us to make thoughtful, informed matches based on each puppy’s developing temperament, individual characteristics, and the family’s lifestyle and preferences.
Families may defer their reservation to a subsequent litter up to two times without forfeiting the reservation fee. Deferrals must be made at the time the formal litter invitation is received. The reservation fee remains valid for up to two years from the date of receipt.
Upon acceptance of a formal litter invitation, a second installment of $1,300 is due. The remaining balance of $2,000 is due when the puppies reach six weeks of age. Final payment must be received and cleared prior to puppy matching. Electronic payment is preferred; personal checks must clear before a puppy can be selected.
Our Australian Labradoodle Puppy Selection
We believe puppy selection should be both thoughtful and personal. While we do not encourage gender preferences, families may indicate a gender preference when making their reservation, which allows us to understand the needs of each reservation and plan accordingly once a litter arrives. Preferences are not added or changed after the puppies are born.
By seven weeks of age, every puppy receives a comprehensive veterinary examination and completes a Volhard Puppy Aptitude Evaluation with our Certified Professional Trainer. These evaluations provide valuable insight into each puppy’s temperament and individual characteristics, allowing us to identify any puppy who may not be an appropriate match for a particular family.
Puppy selection then takes place in reservation order. Each family is presented with the puppies considered to be appropriate matches for their family, often with multiple puppies from which to choose. Families may consider their gender preference when applicable, along with the individual characteristics and temperament of the puppies presented. This approach allows families to have a meaningful choice while ensuring that every puppy is placed thoughtfully with the family best suited to them.
Bringing a River Days Puppy Home
River Days families are warmly welcomed to collect their puppy from our home in central North Carolina. For families traveling by air, we offer the convenience of a personal handoff at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) for a $100 airport delivery fee. Each puppy traveling by air is thoughtfully prepared for the journey in a soft-sided airline carrier.
For families who prefer a flight nanny, our professional flight nanny may be available to personally accompany the puppy to the destination airport for an additional fee. We do not ship puppies by cargo. Every River Days puppy deserves a safe, personal transition from our care to the family waiting at home.
A Lifelong Commitment
Every River Days puppy is placed with a contract that includes our commitment to responsible spay and neuter practices. In accordance with the guidance of our trusted veterinarian, we do not support early spay or neuter and require families to follow our established timing guidelines.
We are committed to the lifelong well-being of every River Days dog. If a family can no longer provide a home, we ask that River Days be contacted so we can help determine the best path forward, including re-homing or returning the dog to River Days.
We are intentional about the families we welcome into our program and carefully review each application to ensure that every River Days puppy is placed in a home where their safety, well-being, and lifelong care will be valued.
